Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Professional to manage end-to-end payroll operations across Japan, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The ideal candidate should have strong regional expertise, deep knowledge of local statutory requirements, and hands-on experience with multi-country payroll processes. This role demands accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external payroll vendors.
Key Responsibilities
1. End-to-End Payroll Management

Manage the complete monthly payroll lifecycle for Japan (JP), China (CN), Taiwan (TW), and Hong Kong (HK).

Handle input validation, payroll calculations, reconciliations, and payment execution.

Ensure accurate processing of salaries, benefits, statutory contributions, taxes, deductions, and final settlements.

Coordinate with local payroll vendors to ensure smooth data flow and SLA adherence.

Process off-cycle payments, bonuses, and special payroll runs.
2. Compliance & Statutory Reporting

Act as the SME for payroll compliance across JP, CN, TW, and HK.

Ensure adherence to local labor laws, tax rules, pension schemes, and statutory contributions.

Manage filing of statutory reports and year-end obligations (e.g., Japan Year-End Adjustment, HK Employer’s Return).

Stay updated on regulatory and legislative changes affecting payroll operations.
3. Data Management & Audit

Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of payroll data with proper documentation.

Prepare payroll-related reports for Finance, HR, and Management (GL, cost centers, analytics).

Support internal/external audits with documentation and clarifications.

Maintain and update payroll data in HRIS/Payroll systems (e.g., SuccessFactors, SAP).
4. Stakeholder Management

Serve as the primary contact for employee payroll queries and issue resolution.

Collaborate with HR, Finance, Accounting, and Treasury teams on payroll funding, reconciliation, and budgeting.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen regional payroll processes.
Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.
Preferred Education

Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline.
Required Technical & Professional Expertise
-
3–5 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience.

Hands-on experience with payroll for Japan, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong is mandatory.

Strong understanding of local statutory regulations, tax rules, and social security/pension schemes in all four regions.

Proficiency in HRIS/Payroll systems (SuccessFactors/SAP) and advanced Excel.

Fluency in English; proficiency in Japanese and/or Mandarin/Cantonese is highly desirable.
