Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Professional to manage end-to-end payroll operations across Japan, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The ideal candidate should have strong regional expertise, deep knowledge of local statutory requirements, and hands-on experience with multi-country payroll processes. This role demands accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external payroll vendors.

Key Responsibilities

1. End-to-End Payroll Management
  • Manage the complete monthly payroll lifecycle for Japan (JP), China (CN), Taiwan (TW), and Hong Kong (HK).

  • Handle input validation, payroll calculations, reconciliations, and payment execution.

  • Ensure accurate processing of salaries, benefits, statutory contributions, taxes, deductions, and final settlements.

  • Coordinate with local payroll vendors to ensure smooth data flow and SLA adherence.

  • Process off-cycle payments, bonuses, and special payroll runs.

2. Compliance & Statutory Reporting
  • Act as the SME for payroll compliance across JP, CN, TW, and HK.

  • Ensure adherence to local labor laws, tax rules, pension schemes, and statutory contributions.

  • Manage filing of statutory reports and year-end obligations (e.g., Japan Year-End Adjustment, HK Employer’s Return).

  • Stay updated on regulatory and legislative changes affecting payroll operations.

3. Data Management & Audit
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of payroll data with proper documentation.

  • Prepare payroll-related reports for Finance, HR, and Management (GL, cost centers, analytics).

  • Support internal/external audits with documentation and clarifications.

  • Maintain and update payroll data in HRIS/Payroll systems (e.g., SuccessFactors, SAP).

4. Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary contact for employee payroll queries and issue resolution.

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, Accounting, and Treasury teams on payroll funding, reconciliation, and budgeting.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen regional payroll processes.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.

Preferred Education

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline.

Required Technical & Professional Expertise

  • 3–5 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience.

  • Hands-on experience with payroll for Japan, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong is mandatory.

  • Strong understanding of local statutory regulations, tax rules, and social security/pension schemes in all four regions.

  • Proficiency in HRIS/Payroll systems (SuccessFactors/SAP) and advanced Excel.

  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Japanese and/or Mandarin/Cantonese is highly desirable.
